BMC Software, the presenting sponsor since the New York race’s inception in 2002, moved up to title sponsor for the 2004 event. The official name of the race will now be the BMC Software New York City Cycling Championship.

The Outdoor Life Television Network (OLN), the rights holder for Le Tour de France, began broadcast of the event at its 4 July onset, and will continue to transmit coverage using Intelsat until the completion of the race on 27 July.
